A Guiding Path: How Were Previous Pandemics Handled and How Do They Relate to the Current COVID-19 Crisis?
Pandemics and their Impacts on America
Our IMPACT Project
In previous years, the US has faced its share of pandemics and outbreaks, but none have seemed to take as large of a toll as the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Taking a look at how past outbreaks were handled can help give clues to how present ones should be dealt with. The main two viruses focused on in the article are the Zika Virus, whose outbreak happened in 2016, and the Influenza Outbreak in 1918. With guiding statistics from those previous outbreaks, a deeper understanding can be found in how to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

How you can help
Six Feet Apart
COVID-19 is highly spread through contact and airborne particles. Six feet apart for best results!
Wear Protective Gear
When going out, it's always a great idea to wear a mask and gloves. It helps stop the airborne spread and putting the virus on surfaces that others may soon pick up.
Clean Regularly
Whenever you can, wipe down your counters or a frequently touched area. It minimizes the changes of the virus living on surfaces in the house.
Social Distancing
Stay indoors during the pandemic. Only go out for necessities, such as buying groceries. The best way to keep the virus from spreading is to stay away from others who are infected. Make sure to keep in contact with others through social media or internet! Social distancing doesn't mean you can talk with others electronically.
Practice Good Hygiene
Shower, brush your teeth, sleep, and stay active! A healthy body is a strong body.
Isolation
If already infected, make sure to isolate yourself if you live with others. Clean and disinfect surfaces you touch.
